A native of New York City and raised in Harrisburg, PA, Dick Burnett is a 1978 graduate of Dickinson College where he studied English literature and literary criticism. He received a Master of Divinity from Yale University (Berkeley Divinity School @ Yale) and was ordained in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington (DC) in 1983. He served parishes in White Plains and Long Island, NY, before beginning a 24-year rectorship in 1997 at Trinity Episcopal Church on Capitol Square in downtown Columbus, OH. There Dick led a vibrant congregation committed to diverse aspects of “public ministry:” from social services for chronically unemployed and unhoused adults and families; to advocacy with migrants and new Americans at the Ohio statehouse, located directly across the street from Trinity’s historic church building; to hosting forums, concerts, and lectures of both religious and nonsectarian community interest. Trinity seeks to embody the claim of the Hebrew prophet Isaiah who announces the divine desire that “my house will be called a house of prayer for all people.”

In 2023, Dick became the fifth General Secretary of CUAC (“Colleges and Universities of the Anglican Communion”), a global network of some 165 institutions of post-secondary higher education on five continents, including the nine-member Association of Episcopal College. Its purpose is the sharing of best practices, and strengthening common efforts, for mutual flourishing and becoming active and responsive citizens of an increasingly complex and dynamic world.
