History
NEOC was established jointly by the Bishops of Newcastle and Durham in 1976 and has developed to form a regional course.

Campus, Housing and Student Services
NOEC is a dispersed learning programme and all students learn independently and in small groups within their own local context. NEOC’s own collections plus readership in some university and college libraries totals over 30,000 volumes.
Tuition and Housing Costs
Costs are met by sponsoring churches, although limited assistance is available in certain cases.
