Mission
The Welsh National Centre for Religious Education is concerned with the advancement of religious education among children and among adults within schools, colleges, and churches. There are five specific focuses to the current work of the Centre:
· Development of resources to promote religious education in schools and churches.
· Operation of a resourece centre specializing in religious education within schools and churches
· Design and operation of distance learning degree and sub-degree programmes in order to eqeuip professional (lay and ordained) educators concerned with religious education in schools and churches
· Continuing professional development of religious educators through taught programmes and through research degrees
· Design, supervision, and execution of research relevant to religious education in schools and churches
History
The Welsh National Centre for Religious Education was established in 1979 following the closure of the St. Mary’s Anglican Teacher Training College in Bangor. The Centre operates as an Anglican presence within the University of Wales, Bangor.
Degrees and Programs
The courses of study available through the WNCRE include three undergraduate Certificates in Christian Studies, Children’s Ministry, and Schools Ministry. The graduate program offers a Certificate, Diploma, MTh, and DMin degrees in various subjects.
