History
Clarkson College traces its roots to Omaha’s Good Samaritan Hospital, which opened in 1869 and became the forerunner of Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital. The first student nurse completed a two-year training period in 1890. In 1902, a three-year nurses’ training school accepted students at the Hospital’s 17th and Dodge Street location. A Clarkson superintendent called civic leaders to the first meeting of the Nebraska Nurses Association at Clarkson in 1906.
The 1970s saw Clarkson College admit male students to its burgeoning program. In the 1980s, Clarkson College received North Central Association and National League for Nursing accreditation. Development of the Online Education, Professional Development, Graduate and Radiologic Technology/Medical Imaging programs swiftly followed. Today, the College also offers degrees and certificates in Health Care Business and certificates in Health Ministry.

Campus, Housing and Student Services
Development of a new apartment-style Residence Hall and Student Center is underway, which will comprise a new "student village." The residence hall will offer 140 beds of dedicated student housing configured in 35 apartments. Each 1,222 square foot apartment will include four individual bedrooms, two bathrooms with double vanities, a living room and kitchen with full amenities. Four apartments will meet ADA accessibility requirements. The commons areas of the Residence Hall will offer group study and social areas, laundry facilities, storm shelter and direct access to the new Student Center. The Student Center will include multi-purpose activity space with seating for up to 400 people and recreational sports, bookstore, student lounge, limited food service, exercise room and student support services.
The Success Center provides college-based resources and support services to Clarkson College students. The Center operates under the philosophy that all students, regardless of previous success, can and should become better learners. Free to all students, the Success Center assists students in achieving academic, professional, and personal goals. Students can take advantage of major services provided by the Success Center, such as: assessment testing, counseling, academic skills development, tutoring, educational workshops, and career planning and placement.

Spiritual Life
Students and professionals in the health care field confront issues of life and death on a regular basis. These issues can challenge the strongest of spiritual beliefs. Since students must learn how to care for the whole patient, including the spiritual dimension as well as the physical and psychological, courses at Clarkson College explore such topics as death and dying, religious and cultural differences, and ethics and contemporary moral issues. One of the significant benefits of being a church-related college is the ability to speak openly about spiritual issues and to address this important dimension in caring for the sick and dying. Fundamental is the respect students learn for those whose religious and worldviews are different from their own. An additional challenge is to meet the patients’ spiritual needs in the health care setting. All Clarkson College students also have an opportunity to interact with hospital chaplains in their clinical rotations. In addition to the faculty, chaplains help sort through some of the complex bioethical decisions that confront staff, patients, and families on a regular basis. A chaplain is available at all times to students on the Clarkson College campus.
Worship services are held regularly in St. Luke’s Chapel. These include Morning and Evening Prayer as well as the weekly Eucharist. In addition there are Roman Catholic Masses on Thursdays and Sundays. Most major denominations have congregations within a short distance of the College.

Sports
Clarkson College offers intramural sports for all students.
