Mission
The motto of the CMS College is Thy Word is Truth and it has been the attempt of the college to live up to it during all its existence. The college aims at offering education that would liberate man from the darkness of ignorance and lead all into a full understanding of the truth.
History
Established in 1817 by the missionaries of the Church Missionary Society, England, the CMS College is one of the earliest centres of Higher Education in India. The college is managed by the Madhya Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India. This Diocese was earlier an Anglican Diocese, till the merger of similar Dioceses occured in 1947.

Campus, Housing and Student Services
The campus is in the heart of the town of Kottayam. Yet, it enjoys a calm and serene ambience. The humming casuarinas and the shady trees render a mystic charm to the campus. Most of the main buildings date back to the British days.
A cooperative bookstore; an on-campus branch of the State Bank of Travancore; an on-campus post-office; a canteen that provides breakfast, lunch, snacks, and services special events. The Parent-Teacher Association sees to the well being of the student community, and supports to offer better facilities.
Named after Rev. Philip Lea, the last European Principal of the College, Lea Hostel offers a secure place of residence for women students. Graduate men students also have a hostel.
Spiritual Life
Chapel and Chaplaincy: Designed by the Principal Rev. Chapman in 1838, the chapel is a rare specimen of gothic architecture. The current chaplain is Dr. Roy Sam Daniel.
Liturgy: The Chapel holds regular morning services on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Services on Monday are in English. The Liturgy used is the Book of Common Prayer of the Church of England. Holy Communion is celebrated at the beginning of every term.
Outreach: Student and Staff retreats are conducted once every academic year. Community services like support for hospitals too are undertaken. The Chapel is available for activities of different Christian student organizations. The College supports evangelistic efforts of the student organizations.
Library and Internet Facility
The Library currently holds about 1600 volumes and it subscribes to several journals and periodicals. An archive, which preserves documents like the Proceedings of the C. M. S Missionaries, also runs in the Library.
Tuition and Housing Costs
Tuition cost varies, depending on course pattern. Government funded and Self financing courses available. Compared to International standards, education and living expenses can be cheaper in India. Facilities for accommodation can be arranged.

Students from different parts of the world can try C M S College. Before joining, they need to find if the University will approve of their certificates.
