Colleges and Universities of the Anglican Communion
Faculty Exchange
Global Teaching in the Global World

Faculty Exchanges operate between two institutions of higher education, typically in different cultures.

They benefit the individual faculty member in providing:

  • a new intellectual environment,
  • a broadening experience of the Anglican Communion,
  • an opportunity to teach in a third/second/first world environment,
  • an opportunity to conduct research in a different culture

For the Receiving Institution/Students they provide:

  • a teacher and scholar for a term who may bring a degree of academic skill and seniority that my well be beyond the typical reach of the institution,
  • a scholar who can bring needed skills for an institution to acquire through the exchange,
  • a different academic perspective,
  • academic coverage during a sabbatical

Things that have been typically achieved on exchanges are:

  • specific research in a culture,
  • interdisciplinary collaboration,
  • a different gender or cultural mix on a faculty,
  • exploration of new options in teaching, distance education, and governance

Sometimes exchanges are made both ways to both participating institutions, but this is more difficult to achieve.

CUAC will follow up requests both by Institutions and Individual Faculty, and attempt to network possibilities. Proposals will be posted on this web page (with the institutions and faculty’s consent), as well as specific inquiries of possible institutions made by the General Secretary of CUAC.

The Financial side of Faculty Exchanges generally do not involve changes in salary and permanent status and seniority. Faculty on exchange are generally provided with housing and sometimes with a meal plan. Access to medical coverage is also generally covered. The receiving institution provides any performance review or documentation that may be required for the exchange faculty to maintain academic seniority in his/her home institution.

To make an inquiry or launch a proposal, write to The Rev. Dr. Don Thompson, CUAC General Secretary a short summary of the proposal to start the process.
